Who is this course for?

This is a course about culture. But it is not a course about “capturing,” “harnessing,” or “moving” at its speed. It is not particularly concerned with “decoding,” “leveraging,” or otherwise extracting value as though culture were a static resource to be mined, molded, and managed.

Instead, this course invites you to radically rethink culture as a contested process that fundamentally exceeds managerial frameworks imposed on it by the corporate world. Culture is a living force of change that remains central to what we will call “narrative power”—how new futures are imagined, contested, negotiated, and made.

This is an interdisciplinary space for those ready to escape the narrow logics of decks and dashboards in order to engage culture as an imaginative force oriented toward new possibility. Toward a new world.

Why do it now?

The world around us feels anything but imaginative. The future appears bleak. Dystopian, even. The news cycle chips away at our shared sense of possibility. Normalized cruelty depletes the resources of hope for something other than… whatever this is.

Moving beyond fickle optimism to find tangible sources of change within everyday culture, I invite you to join others who, too, are interested in nurturing a renewed orientation toward culture not as a thing to “capture” but as an generative force of change that is always already in motion, pulsing with possibility.

This is an invitation to open yourself to new thinking at the intersection of academic, community, and cultural knowledge and immerse yourself into a collective study with those who want something more than what the latest trend report or corporate talk has to offer.

What the people have to say

“I love your generosity and badass ability to deepen our knowledge of culture and the implications of our collective actions. (…) Povocateur—fearless, challenging norms to jolt people out of complacency, awakening, exposing injustice, agitating for the turth—feels like your brand of Catalyst.”

“You’ve made me realize I could make a difference in one of the most hyper-capitalist fields and that I don’t have to leave my politics at the door.”

“I have saved screenshots of many of your posts because you don’t write like a typical LinkedIn “influencer” but because you say what is real in a theory-driven, evidence-based way in a style that is intelligent, assumed the intelligence of your audience, and is filled with the righteous outrage and moral courage that we all need in this world.”

“I’ve always wanted to comment on your posts to share how much I appreciate, am challenged by, and admire your brilliant, clear, and compelling thought-leadership.”

“You help me keep going and inspire me even when I’m tired. Thank you.”

“it is so clear that this is your ministry. When we step into our vocation, the work sings. And yours certainly does.”

Most of all, expect to connect what you learn about culture’s narrative power to your own sense of personal agency and imaginative capabilities. What kind of narratives do you uphold? What kind of things do you wish to challenge? To what extent is your own thinking limited by restrictive logics? How might you be inspired by the material to access the creative potential that is already within you?
